Deborah,
Things do happen for a reason or two! Glad you liked the experience at the American Pilgrims of the Camino 2012 Gathering. I couldn't make it this time. I think the e-Camino is an "e-collectable". Just like the Gathering NOTHING can substitute for the real Camino experience!!!
Buen Camino,
Karen in CT

Hi Deborah , STEVE, and SANDEEEE! I love Sandy, had the pure pleasure in meeting with her recently along with my Camino guidebook! I have just finished listening to ALL the ipodcast and have sponged it all up! I will be leaving Phoenix to Spain on my first Camino journey May 1st! Taking all my stomach butterflies along and hopefully let them all out in Pamplona. I have been doing a lot of hiking in our beautiful Arizona mountains to hopefully help my Camino. I also as Dee & Tom from Payson, read the article on Martin and have tried to contact him to no avail. There are quite a few past pilgrims here that I would love to meet and maybe we should start a chapter here!! When I return. Thank you so much for sharing so much with us and how much all your hard work is appreciated. Peace & Love Aleida

Best episode yet. Steve was really funny. I've been motivated to perhaps give the camino a chance myself. First need to talk someone into coming with me. Not sure if I would want to do this alone.

Hi Deborah

I listened to Podcast 24 today while on the treadmill. I have enjoyed listening to you and the gang on all of your episodes. I listened to many of them last year when I was out walking getting ready to head for my first Camino. I, an old man by himself, finally went last spring, end of April through the end of May. Needless to say I'm ready to go, again. Thanks for your efforts. Much appreciated.

Merry Christmas!

First let me acknowledge you for starting a discussion about the process and some of the side effects of the returning home. I've just returned from the Le Puy, France to Santiago route and then went on to walk the "Eye of God" (Santiago, Muxia, fisterra, Santiago) And yes, I am experiencing very many different thoughts, feelings and emotions now that I've been home for about 2 weeks now. I have been really looking at this process from many different perspectives and the source of why I am so emotional about the experience of the Camino and wher it is all coming from. I think to just reduce it to chemical changes in my body and that this is some sort of "Depression" makes some huge leaps and assumptions that these things that many of us are feeling when we return are purely physiological and can be reduced to logic, science, and psychology. In my opinion, that is like trying to define, dissect, and explain what love, deep intimate relationships, huge emotional/psycological break throughs and having a spirtual experiences to some sort of intelectual knowledge and chemicals in my bloodstream. Love, joy, sadness, gratitude, forgiveness, and a new way of seeing the world and my life cannot be so easily passed off as just "chemial changes" in my body. Something happens on a spiritual level to many of us that just can' be explained with science or logic. The experiences that happen on the way of the Camino are felt in the very core of our beings and souls (which is a huge assumption on my part) and can't be explained with words or academic reasoning or logic.

The Portuguese route is NOT mostly highway. I walked the route alone from Valenca do Minho in 2006. I repeated this same route just this year (July 2011) with my husband and a buddy of his from college days. some changes in the route toward the end, but not along highway. The minor roads, when used, are about the same as the country roads on the French route and Sanabres route through Galicia. The N-550 parallels the camino, so it is true that you need to cross it more than once, but actually walking along it does not amount to more than a half kilometer. That said, many bikers use the N-550 to get into Santiago. Parts of the N-550 is busy, so that's what has given the route its bad reputation, I think. The route is historically significant and beautiful, especially the vistas above the "rias."

maybe the blues but, looking on the bright side.

oliver wendell holmes said " Man's mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions." Somewhere that is good. It creates the slight discomfort that is necessary to start doing things differently instead of sinking back into teh old comfort zone.

Also prompts you to return to the Camino.
